Smartikle is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use Smartikle.com and authenticate using Google Sign-In.

Children's Privacy & Student Data (COPPA & FERPA)

Smartikle is used by families, tutors, homeschools, and schools, and children may use it under the direction of a responsible adult. Protecting children's information is a priority. This section explains how we handle data about learners under 13 and student records.

  • Adults create and manage accounts. Parents, guardians, teachers, or schools set up and control learner accounts. We do not knowingly allow children under 13 to create accounts or provide personal information directly without verifiable parental or school consent, consistent with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
  • We collect the minimum needed. For a learner that typically means a name or nickname, the managing adult's contact email, and learning activity such as quiz results, course progress, and game scores — used only to deliver and improve the learning experience.
  • No selling, no ads, no targeting. We never sell children's personal information and never use it for behavioral or targeted advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles of children.
  • Schools (FERPA). When a school or teacher uses Smartikle, student data is provided at the school's direction. We act as a "school official" / service provider under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), use student education records only to provide the service to the school, do not re-disclose them improperly, and return or delete them at the school's request.
  • Parental & school rights. A parent, guardian, or school may review, correct, export, or request deletion of a child's information, and may withdraw consent and stop further collection, by contacting support@smartikle.com.
  • Deletion. On a verified request, a learner's personal data is removed from active systems within 30 days, except where retention is required for legal or security reasons.

If you believe a child has provided us personal information without the required consent, contact us and we will promptly delete it.

1. Information We Collect

When you sign in using Google, Smartikle accesses only the following Google account information:

  • Email address
  • Name (profile name)

Smartikle requests only the following OAuth scopes:

  • openid
  • email
  • profile

We do NOT access Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, contacts, or any other Google user data beyond basic profile information.

You may create a separate email address or display name specifically for Smartikle if you prefer. You are not required to use your primary personal email address.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your Google account information solely to:

  • Allow seamless login
  • Authenticate your account
  • Create and manage your Smartikle user profile
  • Provide access to Smartikle learning content
  • Deliver user-requested materials such as:
    • Exams and quiz results
    • Educational articles ("Smartikles")
    • Course materials and updates
  • Communicate important account-related information

We do not use your Google data for advertising, marketing, or any unrelated purposes.

3. Data Sharing

Smartikle does not sell, rent, or trade your Google user data.

We may use trusted third-party service providers strictly to operate the platform (such as hosting providers, cloud infrastructure providers, or payment processors). These providers process data only as necessary to provide the Smartikle service.

We do not share Google user data with third parties for advertising, marketing, or resale.

4. Data Storage & Security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect user information.

Security measures include:

  • HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
  • Secure server environments
  • Access controls limiting who can access user data
  • Storage of only the minimum necessary user information

Smartikle does NOT store your Google password at any time.

5. Data Retention

We retain user data only as long as your account remains active or as necessary to provide services.

If your account is deleted, your personal data will be removed from active systems within 30 days unless retention is required for legal, security, or compliance purposes.

7. Google API Services Limited Use Disclosure

Smartikle's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Smartikle does NOT use Google user data for:

  • Advertising
  • Data brokerage
  • Unrelated profiling
  • AI or machine learning model training outside of the direct user-requested service

Google user data is used solely to provide authentication and core platform functionality.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
